New Cassettes, Gig Review

New Cassettes Northampton Soundhaus 13th October 2006 |
With a folley of support acts that we would'nt have minded seeing but unfortunately missed, the night started on the wrong foot. Milton Keynes act One Toy Soldier are one of the most promising bands in the area and we even wrote about them a mere two months ago. A viewing of them live would have been a good sight.
Anyway by the time we arrived One Toy Soldier must have only just come off the stage, The Soundhaus was heaving, it was one of the busiest times we had ever seen it in there. With our bellies full of Red Stripe and our inhibitions dissipating, New Cassettes finally clambered aboard the low stage. The whole band stood out with their stylistic haircuts, tight tops and trendy jeans. Ironically the frontman Tom Stubbs takes a backseat in the fashion stakes and lets his bright white glasses do the talking.
Opening up with Lighthouse, this song oozes what New Cassettes are all about. A Post Punk, start stop tune that even the scenesters will be dancing on the ceiling to ! There was little movement in the club, but you could tell from the smiles on the faces that they were enjoying the show.
Rattling through their arsenal, New Cassettes hit two stand out tracks in
Recover/Retreat and You Won't Stop. You Won't Stop was their debut released last month on Fantastic Plastic Records. It's another Indie dance track with a chorus that makes it different from the others.
Tying up the show with Televise This and On/Off, New Cassettes have suprised us with what they have to offer Northampton and afar. There were a lot of great songs in this show and coming back from a small tour to showcase these, New Cassettes are about to be big.
