Interview with Neave
U.T. In 5 words can you describe the sound of Neave?N. Dark, Dirty, Sexy, Electro Rock
UT. What was the process of realising you wanted to be involved in music in one form or another?
N. Discovering Kate Bush at the age of Ten. I just remember hearing 'Wuthering Heights' for the first time and being extremely moved. Since then it's been my aim to effect people in that way with my own material.
UT. So if I go to a Neave gig, what would I get to see?
N. Neave shows can't be described. They have to be experienced!
UT. What are the best and worst gigs, you have played so far?
N. Alan Mcgee's 'Death Disco' clubnight was fantastic! First of all I was honoured to have been asked by him and secondly the crowd were amazing! My worst gig so far was at The Pleasure Unit in Bethnal green. The sound was appalling! Mainly because the sound guy didn't have a clue what he was doing and his heart really wasn't in it! They've asked me to play again but quite frankly I'd rather play in a urinal!
UT. Tell us a bit about the “Beat The Clock” club night you set up in Manchester. Will you attempt to recreate the same style of club night in London?
N. Well at the time the city was full of rather tedious indie nights in which people turned up looking like members of Oasis and 'Beat the Clock' was designed to be an antidote to that. It was a place were people could turn up and wear whatever outlandish clothing they wanted and they'd still fit in. We played a mix of Electro, Glam and Techno which always kept people dancing till the small hours. I have toyed with the idea of setting it up in London but there are already places very similar to that so I'm not sure if there's a gap in the market at the moment!
UT. You released Wordless Awkwardness back in 2006. Are there any plans to release any new singles in the near future ?
N. Well before I release any more singles I want to promote this one as much as I can. Infact it's recently been re-released with two new tracks added to it so it's kind of an EP now.
UT. What are the advantages & disadvantages of being a solo artist, rather than being part of band?
N. Well for a start you only have to deal with one ego which saves on alot of arguments! You also have complete creative control and you never need to compromise! The downside is you have to do everything yourself. From writing and recording the songs to playing live and promoting yourself.
UT. Where does Neave, see himself in a years time?
N. I see myself still doing this but with a bigger fanbase and some more record label interest hopefully!
End…
Thanks very much x
