It's A Long Way From That Sort Of Thing, Album Review
This is the debut album from Dublin six piece, My Brother Woody. Their Beach Boys inspired, shimmering pop sound brings resemblance to another bunch of Californian dreamers, The Thrills. So what do MBW have to offer us.
Well with their "doo doo dooing" the sunny sights of California have been shifted to Dublin on Wish I Was A DJ. The harmonious Your New Found Taste is sweet and gentle in stature and Micheal Cleare's breezy vocals make you feel that you are somewhere else.
When Summer Comes Around slants towards a more melancholic sound. The harmonies and bah, bah, bah's are still here but they are slightly deeper with a tinkling glockenspiel trying to lift the spirits. The album ends with the slightly ironic, I Only Like Bops, Oohs which like the rest of the album doesn't put a step wrong.
My Brother Woody have made a great little album here. A lot of the songs run in the same vein, but they don't feel that they are intruding on the previous songs.
