Interview with Allan Rose
U.T. In 5 words can you describe the sound of Allan Rose?A R. Acoustic/ soul/ Indie/ Meaningful/ Deep-Within
UT. What was the process of realising you wanted to be a singer?
A R. Well I started the Brit school for performing arts in 2003 and started off playing the violin. It wasn’t until my second year of being there I realised I could sing a song without it sounding that bad. For the longest time I hated my voice but others enjoyed listening to me. When I went back to the Brit school for my final two years (6th form) my main instrument was my voice. But it’s only since the summer of last year (2006) I have started taking it as serious as possible because I taught myself how to play guitar and can now accompany myself at my gigs.
UT. So if I go to an Allan Rose gig, what would I get to see?
A R. If you came to one of my gigs you would see all the songs that I have not yet recorded and also something that I find that would be quite entertaining. I love to perform and don’t rush through my sets. I speak and explain about some of my songs and how I went about writing them.
UT. What are the best and worst gigs, you have played so far?
A R. The best gig that I would say I have done was at the Windmill in Brixton. It was my 1st gig since leaving college and all my friends and family came down to support me and then we all got a little merry after. The WORST GIG OF MY LIFE was a couple of weeks ago. I had a gig in Kent in the most chavyest pub known to man and the people didn’t even recognise I was there. No claps or well dones after my songs, it was really embarrassing but a learning curve.
UT. You are working on a 12 track album. How is that going?
A R. My album is going really well now. I have nearly finished writing it now but I just need to get into a studio and record my songs, but i'm finding that hard at the moment because of funds. I’m still debating about the name of my album but its going better then I could ever have imagined.
UT. Once the album is finished, how will you proceed with releasing it to the public?
A R. That is still a mystery to me as well as everyone else. I’m going to send the finished product to as many labels as possible and A&R people. I’m going to find it hard but will kind of be fun and so worth doing.
UT. What are the advantages & disadvantages of being a solo artist, rather than being part of band?
A R. The advantage of it is that it’s just me and I get all the credit for the songs that I write and never argue with band mates. Saying that I do argue with myself sometimes about some of the crap that comes out of my head. But no I really do enjoy being a solo artist. I would say the disadvantages of being solo is that I get no other input towards writing some of music and therefore I noticed that some songs that I’m not putting on the album have started to sound like some others.
UT. Where does Allan Rose, see himself in a years time?
A R. In a years time I would like my music to be on the radio and have television performances, I would love to play on Jools (Holland) and that’s what I’m aiming for at the moment. I would love to have my album professionally recorded and have the finished product in stores and on itunes.
End…
Thanks very much x
